The Karate Paradox

If you’re a karateka today you have more styles to choose from compared to a generation ago – even supposed family styles such as Kojo-ryu are accessible. You have more skilled non-Japanese instructors than ever before teaching authentic systems. On the other hand, you also have more junk ‘Kurodee’ than ever. ‘Kurodee’ teachers and students who have no understanding of it’s fundamental techniques, philosophy, culture, history and on top of that are hopelessly out of shape. It seems to me that the Karate-do world is both deteriorating and improving at the same time… a paradox.
