Cobra Kai Season 3 Episode 4

If you enjoyed the ‘Karate Kid’ movie from the 1980s, then you’ll love TV show ‘Cobra Kai’ which is now on Netflix. It’s a great diversion over the holidays, but something caught my eye in the recent season. In episode 4, Daniel returns to Okinawa and meets up with his one-time rival, Chozen, who explains to him that he never learned ‘everything’ from his teacher, Mr. Miyagi. At Chozen’s home dojo he sees a scroll explaining ‘crane technique.’ I know its a show, its fiction, but I couldn’t help but burst out laughing at the Japanese written on the scroll, completely modern, with punctuation and English (written in katakana).

In case you’re curious, this is what was written with my translation below.

右脚の上に立って、左脚を持ち上げ、翼を上げて、バランスを取ります。着地すると右足で、ジャシフしてキックし、相手は左足でキツクすることを期待します。正しぐ行われた場合、防御はありません。

Stand on your right leg, lift your left leg, raise your wing, and balance yourself. As you land, with your right leg, jump and kick.
Your opponent will expect you to kick with your left leg. If done correctly, there is no defense.
