Ryukyu Kobudo Seminar Highlights

I
I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation for our recently completed seminar.
First,
I would like to extend my sincerest thanks and appreciation to those
gracious enough to attend the Ryukyu Kobudo Shinko Kai seminar on May
30 and 31 with Yoshimura sensei. It was wonderful to see such effort,
passion, and enjoyment from all the participants.
My
sincerest gratitude and thanks go to Hiroshi Yoshimura sensei, 7th dan,
for giving his time, knowledge, and experience in teaching us. I am
always honored and humbled by his visits, his relaxed way of teaching,
his sense of humor, and the depth of his knowledge.
I would also like to extend my thanks to William Chung sensei (Tesshinkan), David Walker sensei (Shintokukai), and Carole and Marlon Sensei (Seikokai)
for attending the seminar along with some of their students. It was a
wonderful chance to meet and come together under the same roof to study
Ryukyu Kobudo.
Thank
you also to Garson Ho sempai of Tesshinkan for video recording the
seminar in its entirety! I hope to have the seminar video out to
everyone in the next few weeks. Thank you for your patience.
Special thanks to Krister Naab sensei and his Hinode dojo for hosting the seminar, and providing refreshments. Without him, the seminar would not have been possible.
I
would also like to extend my sincerest thanks to my students Justin,
Krister, Maik, and Peter who took time from their busy schedules to
show Yoshimura sensei around while he was here.
My
gratitude to Barry Gower sensei and his Uechi-ryu Karatedo Dojo in
Chilliwack for allowing Yoshimura sensei to observe and participate in
their practice. He was greatly impressed by the strength of their
technique and dedication.
And last but not least, thank you to my wife Yuki - I couldn't have done it without her.
I'm
sure that we are all a little sore, tired, and some of us still
recovering from the seminar, but hopefully all a little more
enlightened, and inspired in our study of Ryukyu Kobudo. The seminar
was a chance to come together to train, share, learn, and make new
friends. I look forward to hosting Yoshimura sensei again in a few
years down the road, and in the mean time hope that we all will have
the opportunity to meet, share and train again in the near future.
Thank you all once again.
Sincerely,
Mario McKenna
